Now, let’s get started with the part 2 of today’s guide:
(How To Setup a Living Room) – LIGHTING

RULE 8: Make sure the floor lamp shade covers the bulb when you are sitting.
There’s nothing worse than spending a relaxing night on the couch and feeling dizzy every time you look at a lamp. The ideal height for a floor lamp is said to be 68 inches, but this depends on the height of your sofa or chair. When combining lamps with the seat, make sure the lamp is not too high to hit the bare bulb, and not so low that the light is dazzling when lit from below. Ideally, the light should be at eye level when you are seated. This becomes the next rule. Additionally, porcelain bulbs are a great way to avoid glare.
RULE 9: When placing a lamp on a side table, the underside of the lampshade should always be at eye level.
It’s the same idea as the floor lamp rule. To beautify your time in the living room, you want to avoid dazzling your eyes with glare. Consider cushion seat height, end table height, and lamp height to find out which option works best for you and your home.
RULE 10: Place the wall light 5 to 6 feet off the ground.
Wall lights that are too low or too high not only look weird, but they don’t give you the ambient light you need. As a rule of thumb, placing it at least 60 inches off the floor will easily avoid this potential problem and add a nice glow to any corner or area of the room.
RULE 11: There should be a distance of 3 to 6 inches between the sconce and the edge of the adjacent mirror or artwork.
Just like furniture needs space to breathe and keep it looking its best, wall lights need space too. Keeping your hanging artwork or wall décor at least 3 to 6 inches away from your sconces will give both pieces the space they need to shine.

RULE 12: To determine the width of the clear ceiling:
Multiply your ceiling height by 2.5 to 3 to get the recommended dimensions in inches. So if your ceiling is 10 feet, multiply it by 2.5 and you get 25 inches. This is the approximate width of the hanging ceiling light.
Another way to calculate the proper lighting size is to use the room size. Simply measure the length and width of your room. Then add these two numbers and convert the sum to inches. For example, if your room is 12 feet by 16 feet, your ceiling light should be approximately 28 inches wide.
These handy formulas will give you a starting point to determine the proper size you need for your living room ceiling light. Ordering the wrong size is the worst and most annoying. We hope this takes the guesswork out of light shopping and helps you along the way.
RULE 13: In open spaces with people, the minimum distance between the bottom of the pendant light and the floor should be 7 feet.
However, if your ceiling is over 8 feet, just add 3 inches of hanging height per foot. Therefore, if the ceiling height is 10 feet, the light should be mounted approximately 8.5 feet above the floor.
SIDE TABLE

RULE 14: The side table should not be lower than the adjacent sofa.
It goes without saying, but just to be sure, the side table should not be lower than the sofa. A side table that is too big for the sofa seems strange.
RULE 15: Place a side table nearby so you can easily place your drink.
This is usually 2-3 inches from arm height. Another thing is easy. Side tables are intended to be installed and used next to the seat. We want to make it easy to put down glasses, books, or whatever else you have in your hand.
